MEET THE AUTHOR
Mary Ellen Johnson
Mary Ellen Johnson writes sweeping historical fiction where love collides with power, loyalty, and revolution. Her six-book KNIGHTS OF ENGLAND series brings the turbulent fourteenth century to life—from the reign of Edward II to the Battle of Shrewsbury—blending real history with unforgettable fictional lives.
She is also the author of the time-travel romances BEFORE I WAKE and ETERNAL BELOVED, where past and present intertwine in stories of destiny and devotion. Her latest novel, THE GOLDEN PROMISE OF CRIPPLE CREEK: Love During the Boom Times, moves from medieval courts to turn-of-the-century Colorado and the explosive 1903-04 Colorado Labor Wars.
Raised in a blue-collar family, Mary Ellen grew up hearing stories of hard work, loyalty, the quiet dignity of working people—and of darker times, when unions had to fight management for even the possibility of a better life. Naturally, she was drawn to nearby Cripple Creek and Victor, the site of the Colorado Labor Wars--where miners and mine owners squared off in what would become one of the most turbulent strikes in American history. Mary Ellen hopes that her passion for meticulous research and emotionally rich storytelling has successfully brought to life princes and paupers, heroes and monsters, and most importantly, lovers whose star-crossed relationships resonate, no matter the century.
